KIMBERLEY’S own Peo Gaosenkwe has made waves overseas, placing as runner-up at the Miss Teen Junior Idol World pageant, hosted in Thailand.

The international beauty pageant ran from July 3 to 8, drawing contestants from across the globe, including the Philippines, Laos, and Thailand. Representing South Africa, the 17-year-old Grade 11 learner from Teneo Online School held her own among tough competition.

In addition to her runner-up title, Peo walked away with the Photogenic Idol award – a special honour that recognises standout presence and personality in front of the camera.

But for Peo, the spotlight isn’t just about glamour. She used the platform to speak out about mental health, telling judges and peers that “taking care of our minds is just as important as taking care of our bodies”.

She said her advocacy is rooted in a desire to empower young people to prioritise their mental well-being – a cause she’s passionate about bringing into every space she enters.
