THE KAGISHO police have opened an inquest docket after a 14-year-old boy reportedly drowned near the Gogga pump station in Phutanang on July 18, between 3pm and 4pm.

The incident occurred in the same vicinity where 11-year-old Onkarabetse Thole drowned in 2022.

Northern Cape SAPS spokesperson Colonel Cherelle Ehlers said the teenager and a friend had gone to the pump station on Friday.

"The deceased went swimming and reportedly drowned. His friend went to call for help when the deceased failed to resurface. Investigations are ongoing," she said.

Family members, however, disputed the claim that the teenager would have gone swimming in the cold weather.
