TWO MEN were arrested in Kagisho, Galeshewe, after police uncovered a stash of drugs and cash during a weekend raid linked to suspected drug dealing.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Merapelo Pilane said that the bust took place on Saturday, July 19, during ongoing operations by members of Operation Vala Umgodi, a multi-disciplinary police initiative targeting illegal mining and related criminal activity across the Northern Cape.
Acting on a tip-off about alleged drug dealing at a residential address in Kagisho, officers moved swiftly to search the property. Inside, they discovered a substantial quantity of dagga, mandrax tablets, and an undisclosed amount of money believed to be the proceeds of drug sales.
The suspects, aged 23 and 31, were arrested and are facing charges of dealing in drugs. They are expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court shortly.
Sergeant Pilane said the arrests form part of the police’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on criminal networks operating alongside illegal mining activities in the Frances Baard District.
Operation Vala Umgodi, which has been active in several hot spot areas in Kimberley recently, is focused on dismantling both the illicit mining trade and associated criminal enterprises.
“SAPS continues to encourage members of the public to actively contribute to the fight against crime by reporting suspicious activities anonymously via the MySAPS app or by contacting Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” said Sergeant Pilane.
