A MULTIDISCIPLINARY operation, Operation Shanela II, led by District Commissioner Major General Monica Sebili, was conducted in Upington on July 17, 2025, targeting crime in the ZF Mgcawu District. The operation involved various units, including Immigration, SARS Customs, Dawid Kruiper Municipality Traffic, Law Enforcement, and Local Economic Development personnel.

A three-legged operation was executed, starting with a roadblock on the N10 road where vehicles were inspected and motorists were sensitised on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide through pamphlet distribution.

During the second phase, a drug house was raided in Paballelo, and the operation concluded with compliance inspections in the Central Business District (CBD) area. The focus was on all illicit activities, including drugs and endangered species.

Through the Dawid Kruiper Municipality Local Economic Development, 15 illegal businesses and 14 non-compliant shops were closed. Additionally, a tavern in the CBD was visited, where Northern Cape Liquor Act and Municipality By-Law compliance inspections were conducted.

In a separate incident, a complaint of a stolen vehicle was received, and members of the Highway Patrol followed up, traced the vehicle, and arrested a 29-year-old suspect.

This operation demonstrates the commitment of the South African Police Service to combating crime and ensuring safer communities in the ZF Mgcawu District. The success of the operation highlights the importance of collaboration and partnership between law enforcement agencies and the community.
