A 56-year-old man has been sentenced to six years' imprisonment, suspended for five years, for sexually assaulting his 16-year-old twin nieces in Carnarvon.
The De Aar Regional Court found the accused guilty on two counts of sexual assault, which occurred on two separate occasions in 2023.
The victims reported the incidents to their mother, who opened a case of sexual assault against the accused on October 24, 2023. The suspect was arrested and later released on bail but failed to attend court proceedings, leading to his rearrest.
The court's sentence includes a suspended prison term, conditional on the accused not being convicted of assault during the suspension period. Additionally, his name will be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders, and he has been declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The Pixley Ka Seme District Police Management praised the efforts of Constable Leevirne Raaf, Court Preparation Officer Mr Trot Manghana, and State Prosecutor Ms Xolisa March for their collaborative work in securing a conviction and ensuring justice for the victims.
