The incident occurred on May 18, 2024, when a 20-year-old male victim was fatally stabbed in the chest with a knife. Sergeant Zizongile Mira from SAPS Pella conducted outstanding investigative work, which, combined with diligent prosecution by Basil Kock, led to Simboya's conviction.

Simboya was not only sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment but was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
