Petrusville police arrest 33-year-old man with stolen sheep

Petrusville police arrested a 33-year-old suspect in connection with livestock theft after discovering a sheep carcass and skin matching the description of the stolen animal.

A 33-year-old male suspect has been apprehended by the Petrusville police in connection with the alleged theft of livestock in the Revonia location, Petrusville. The incident occurred between Sunday, July 13, and Tuesday, July 15, 2025.

According to reports, a local small-scale farmer noticed one of his sheep missing and requested police intervention. Following an investigation, officers traced the suspect to a residence where they discovered a sheep carcass and skin matching the description provided by the complainant.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) urges farmers and livestock owners to take proactive steps to prevent stock theft.

The SAPS advises farmers to prevent stock theft by regularly inspecting fences, conducting weekly livestock counts, branding animals according to the Animal Identification Act, installing security cameras, and reporting suspicious activity to SAPS and neighbours.

SAPS encourages all livestock owners to cooperate with the police and the Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit (STESU) to combat stock theft effectively. Members of the public with information on illegal stock theft activities can contact the SAPS Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or report directly to their nearest Stock Theft Unit.

Stock Theft – What Farmers Can Do:

  • Ensure all fences and gates are in good condition
  • Personally inspect livestock regularly
  • Secure kraals or enclosures where animals are kept
  • Be vigilant during high-risk periods
  • Get to know your neighbours and report suspicious activity
