RESIDENTS of Roodepan have been invited to lace up their takkies and take a step toward better health next week, as the Northern Cape Department of Health — under the leadership of MEC Maruping Lekwene — rolls out a Health & Wellness Walk aimed at making health care more accessible and more active.
The event will kick off at 8am on Wednesday, July 9, starting at the Roodepan police station and ending at the Dr Torres Clinic. Along the route, community members can expect more than just a morning stroll — they’ll find a full line-up of health and wellness activities designed to empower, educate and energise.
The walk is part of a broader push by the provincial Department of Health to take services directly into communities and encourage preventative care. Residents will be treated to free health screenings for blood pressure, diabetes and HIV, along with expert tips on managing chronic conditions.
There will also be high-energy aerobics sessions, walking activities to promote fitness and unity, and plenty of health education to keep families informed and inspired.
The Roodepan walk follows several recent health innovations launched under the department’s ongoing drive to transform service delivery. These include the roll-out of Collect&Go Smart Lockers — which are making it easier for chronic patients in Deben and Postmasburg to collect medication — and the 1.1 Million Campaign to expand HIV treatment access.
With 84 facilities already reaching “ideal clinic” status this year, officials say the goal is clear: quality health care that reaches people where they live.
What to bring:
So, whether you’re due for a check-up or just keen for a community boost, Roodepan’s health walk promises a fun and meaningful way to get moving.
