A 64-YEAR-OLD former driving school instructor, Moatlhodi Matthews Nthutang, has been sentenced to three years' imprisonment for corruption after accepting a bribe for issuing driver's licences. The Hartswater Magistrate's Court handed down the sentence, with no option for a fine.

Nthutang was arrested in March 2021 during a sting operation by the Hawks' Serious Corruption Investigation team.

The investigation began in February 2021, after allegations surfaced that Nthutang and a traffic official were issuing Code 14 driver's licences without proper testing in exchange for R3,500 payments.

While Nthutang was found guilty, the traffic officer was acquitted.

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation provincial head, Major-General Steven Mabuela, praised his team and the prosecution for their dedication to solving the case.
