A group of talented graduates from Sol Plaatje University (SPU) have made a significant impact in the Northern Cape government through their work at the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) Northern Cape.

By fully utilising their positions as interns, they designed, developed, and maintained two innovative digital solutions that are changing the way government works.

The graduates, who were part of SITA's internship programme, built the E-Rehab Application and the Student Management Information System (SMIS). These systems have replaced manual, paper-based processes with streamlined digital platforms, reducing administrative burdens and improving data accuracy and reporting.

One of the graduates, Bennie Venter, who joined SITA as an intern, shared his experience: "I was part of the team that built both the E-Rehab and SMIS systems. It has been an incredible experience, both professionally and personally, knowing that our work supports the Province."

The internship programme at SITA Northern Cape has been instrumental in empowering young professionals like Venter.

Since 2018, the agency has onboarded over 30 graduate interns, providing them with critical ICT skills and experience. Other graduates have secured permanent positions within SITA and other government departments, including SAPS and the Department of Roads and Public Works.

The success of these graduates is a testament to the power of investing in youth and empowering them to drive digital transformation.

By trusting young professionals with real responsibilities, SITA Northern Cape is nurturing a capable and future-ready public service.

The E-Rehab Application, developed in partnership with the Department of Social Development, digitises rehabilitation service referrals, enabling faster and more effective client case management.
