Smart Lockers revolutionise healthcare access in Northern Cape communities

KUMBA Iron Ore, in partnership with the Department of Health, has unveiled electronic smart locker facilities in Deben and Postmasburg, Northern Cape, aimed at improving access to primary healthcare services in the region. 

The Collect&Go Smart Lockers, facilitated through Right to Care's ePharmacy, will enable patients to collect their chronic medication efficiently, reducing queues at medical facilities.

Addressing community members and stakeholders at the 1.1 Million Campaign launch, Northern Cape Health MEC, Maruping Lekwene, said, "These smart lockers will provide our people with efficiency, dignity, and most importantly, encourage patients not to default on their treatments."

Key features of the Smart Lockers:

  • Patients receive an SMS with a one-time PIN to collect their medication
  • A convenient and cost-effective way to access healthcare services
  • Encourages patients to adhere to their treatment plans

The launch of the smart lockers is one of the many programmes Kumba has put in place to assist host communities in working towards achieving equal access to quality healthcare," said Mhlanganisi Madlongolwana, Kumba Iron Ore Stakeholder Engagement Principal.

The initiative aims to improve healthcare access and outcomes in the Northern Cape region, demonstrating the positive impact of collaboration between the public and private sectors.
