THE THIRD session of the Northern Cape Provincial House of Traditional and Khoisan Leaders (NCPHTKL) will officially open on Wednesday, June 18, at the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature in Kimberley.
Kgosi Pelonomi Toto, chairperson of the NCPHTKL, will preside over the ceremonial opening, which marks the formal commencement of the House’s annual programme.
The NCPHTKL is a constitutionally recognised advisory body tasked with promoting traditional leadership, customs, and cultural heritage in the province. Its role is guided by the Northern Cape Traditional Leadership, Governance and Houses of Traditional Leaders Act (Act 2 of 2007), which mandates the annual opening of the House under Section 38(1).
This annual event not only signals the start of the House’s activities but also highlights the importance of inclusive governance grounded in indigenous values and identity.
The House continues to play a critical role in advising the provincial government on matters affecting traditional communities and works to preserve the cultural legacy of both traditional and Khoisan leaders in the Northern Cape.
