THE Sobantu Neighbourhood Watch (SOBNEIWA) held a fun and games day for the youth in Kwa-Nobuantu in Galeshewe on Youth Day.
SOBNEIWA spokesperson Aslam Mxolisi Tawana said the day had become an annual event on the neighbourhood watch's calendar.
“SOBNEIWA is celebrating its third anniversary since it was launched in 2023. It has become an important community-driven crime prevention platform within our community.
“In addition to fighting crime, the structure is very much involved in social cohesion and the games held on Monday form part of that. The organisation is led by the founder Iris “Fefe” Chabasesele, volunteers and night patrollers who prevent crime and keep our neighbourhoods safe.”
He added that a social worker, Rethabile Tau, addressed youths on the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse as well as the daily struggles faced by young people.
“Members of the SAPS and Operation Fiela and Operation Wanya Tsotsi, as well as business persons, supported and contributed towards the event,” Tawana stated.
An egg and spoon race, a sack race, and a tug of war were some of the activities held, accompanied by healthy refreshments.
