JUST hours before the scheduled restoration of water to Kimberley on Tuesday, the Sol Plaatje Municipality has confirmed a setback at Midstation that will delay pumping into the distribution network from the Newton Reservoir.
According to Rikus Rossouw, project leader from engineering firm Bigen Africa, the issue involves the newly installed isolation valve on the 900mm pipeline at Midstation. As a result, residents in high-lying areas (Kimberley suburbia) are now only likely to receive water from Wednesday morning.
Rossouw was joined in a video update by Sol Plaatje’s executive director of Infrastructure and Services, Walter Jood, to deliver the Day 5 technical report on the planned water supply interruption, explain the cause of the delay, and outline the municipality’s next steps.
A further update from the municipality’s Communications Unit is expected at 6pm this evening.
