WATCH: Water supply restoration still on track for Tuesday, says Sol Plaatje

THE SOL Plaatje Municipality said on Sunday that repair work remains on schedule on Day 3 of Kimberley’s planned water shutdown - with water supply still set to be restored by 6pm on Tuesday, June 3.

In a video update shared by the municipality’s Communications Unit, the executive director of Infrastructure and Services, Walter Jood, provides the latest progress report from the ground.

Key progress updates:

Old Riverton Water Treatment Plant

  • All three raw water abstraction pumps and motors have been installed; testing is under way
  • Testing of the 10 MVA transformer is ongoing
  • Major repairs to the manifold at the high-lift pump station are scheduled for completion on Monday
  • Work on replacing the 600mm diameter butterfly valve is in progress
  • The 9 ML clearwater tank has been fully cleaned, with work under way on the smaller 2 ML tank

Bulk Pipeline Repairs

  • The installation of the 900mm valve downstream of Midstation is set to be completed on Monday
  • Eight of the 16 major leaks have been repaired, with additional teams deployed to fast-track the remaining work

The municipality says teams are working around the clock to stay on track and ensure restoration by the Tuesday evening deadline.
