AS KIMBERLEY residents brave another day without water, the Sol Plaatje Municipality has reported steady progress made during the planned five-day water shutdown, with key repair work at the Riverton Water Treatment Works nearing completion.

In a video update shared by the municipality’s Communications Unit on Saturday, May 31, both the executive director of Infrastructure and Services, Walter Jood, and project engineer Rikus Rossouw from Bigen Africa provide insights from the ground.

Five of the 16 identified major leaks on the bulk pipeline between Riverton and Kimberley have already been repaired.

Meanwhile, electrical work for the change-over to a new transformer at Riverton is now 80% complete — a significant milestone in efforts to stabilise power at the treatment works.

One of the three key raw water abstraction pumps at Riverton has been serviced and is already installed. The remaining two are expected to be in place by Saturday night.
