TWO KIMBERLEY women, who allegedly retaliated against their “abusive” partners under similar circumstances at around the same time on the same day, have remained in custody since their arrests earlier this week.
Both accused are being represented by Legal Aid South Africa and are expected to apply for bail next week.
A woman from Greenpoint is scheduled to apply for bail on June 2 after she allegedly stabbed her life partner, who had reportedly attacked her with a hammer.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Cherelle Ehlers said the Kimberley SAPS Detectives were investigating a case of murder after a 32-year-old woman allegedly fatally stabbed her life partner in Greenpoint during the early hours of Monday morning.
“The incident took place on May 26 at about 12.40am, following a brief altercation between the couple,” said Ehlers.
In a separate incident, a 31-year-old mother of three is also due to apply for bail on June 3 for the alleged murder of her 33-year-old life partner. The incident occurred in Colville, also on Monday, at approximately 12.40am.
Community members in Floors and the woman’s family claimed that she, along with her children – aged between two and 12 – had endured ongoing abuse at the hands of her partner.
It is believed the couple had an argument on Sunday before leaving home to buy groceries. Later that evening, they reportedly went out, during which another argument broke out shortly before the fatal stabbing.
Family members said the accused had previously obtained protection orders against the deceased and insisted she had no intention of killing him. They added that she was recently assaulted so severely that her face was left bruised and swollen.
Neighbours also claimed that the deceased’s family had threatened to burn down the couple’s home in Floors following the stabbing incident.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock confirmed that the Kimberley Serious and Violent Crimes Unit was investigating a murder after a 31-year-old woman allegedly stabbed her 33-year-old life partner to death in Colville.
“The incident allegedly took place on Monday, May 26, 2025 at about 12.40am, after a brief altercation between the couple,” said Kock.
Anyone with information relating to either incident is urged to contact Detective Warrant Officer Thabang Kamolane on 082 302 0407, call the SAPS Crime Stop number at 08600 10111, or use the MySAPS app.
