AT THE young age of 17, Kimberley Girls’ High learner Resego Tsolo is proving that courage and a passion for empowerment can take you far, even on your very first modelling journey. What began as a bold decision to step outside of her comfort zone has now blossomed into national recognition. Resego was recently crowned First Princess in the prestigious Miss Teen Glam South Africa pageant — an incredible achievement that left her both stunned and grateful.
“Honestly, it felt unreal! When they called my name as the first princess, I was kind of in shock—I had to double-check if I actually heard it right,” she says, beaming. “I felt so proud and happy, and all the hard work leading up to that moment just hit me. It was such an emotional moment, and I’m just really grateful. It means a lot to be recognised on a national level, and I want to make the most of it.”
Miss Teen Glam SA was Resego’s first-ever pageant. Far from being intimidated, she embraced the challenge with purpose and poise. “It all started with my desire to try something new and challenge myself,” she said before the finals. “As someone who is naturally introverted, I don’t usually put myself out there, so this experience really pushed me.”
She impressed judges and audiences alike with her powerful mental health advocacy video and confident radio interview — all while balancing academics and extracurriculars. A firm believer in discipline and time management, she stuck to a study schedule while still finding time for choir rehearsals and modelling commitments.
But it hasn’t been without hurdles. “One of the biggest challenges for me was definitely confidence,” she reflects. “At first, I kept comparing myself to the other girls and doubting if I even belonged there. But I reminded myself why I started and focused on being the best version of me, not anyone else.” She overcame her nerves with breathing exercises, encouragement from loved ones, and sheer determination.
Now, with a national title to her name, Resego is determined to use her platform for good. “As First Princess, I want to be a role model for younger girls and show them they can achieve anything,” she says. “I’m passionate about raising awareness around mental health, especially for teens, because it’s something many struggle with in silence. Lastly, I want to promote literacy—reading and writing have helped me so much, and I’d love to encourage others to discover that too.”
Resego’s ambitions extend beyond the pageant world. She plans to continue entering competitions, with her sights set on Miss South Africa one day. She’s also passionate about tourism and dreams of travelling the world with a qualification in tourism management. “I want a few stamps in my passport,” she laughs.
Her journey wouldn’t be complete without her support system. “My entire family and friends have been my greatest support structure,” she says. “But my mom has definitely been the one who has kept me motivated.”
To other young girls looking up to her, Resego has a simple but powerful message: “Follow your dreams and never doubt yourself. You are beautiful, and you are enough.”
From a shy teen stepping out of her comfort zone to a national titleholder, Resego Tsolo is more than just a pageant contestant — she’s a beacon of hope, strength, and inspiration for the youth of Kimberley and beyond.
