THE Northern Cape Department of Education has launched a full-scale intervention at Agang Thuto Primary School near Postmasburg following an unannounced visit that exposed deeply troubling conditions at the school.
According to a press statement issued by the Department, officials found a severe breakdown in discipline and a blatant disregard for the daily school schedule.
Teachers and learners were reportedly arriving at inconsistent times, disrupting the teaching and learning process.
According to the department's spokesperson, Geoffrey van der Merwe, the Department has suspended both the school’s Principal and the Circuit Manager with immediate effect.
To ensure the school continues to function, the Department has appointed an interim administrator who will assume leadership responsibilities until further notice.
The Northern Cape Department of Education reiterated its commitment to ensuring that every learner in the province has access to a safe, structured, and high-quality educational environment. The situation at Agang Thuto Primary School is now under urgent review.
