A NINE-YEAR-OLD Kimberley boy was killed after he was reportedly knocked over by a taxi while on his way to school this week.
SAPS Northern Cape spokesperson Sergeant Molefi Shemane said the Galeshewe Serious and Violent Crimes Unit was investigating a case of culpable homicide.
“The nine-year-old boy was on his way to school when he was reportedly fatally run over by a taxi in Ramatsela Street in Galeshewe on Tuesday, May 20, at 7.45am,” said Shemane.
He added that no arrest had been made and that the investigation into the accident was ongoing.
ANC ward councillor Casper Rammutle said the boy’s foster mother was devastated.
“The child was placed in her care and was living in Snake Park, as he was experiencing accommodation difficulties. The foster process was almost completed,” he said.
Rammutle added that the community was up in arms over the incident.
“They complained that the taxi drivers are reckless and rude. Now an innocent life has been lost. I advised the community to leave the investigation in the hands of the police.”
He said they were collecting donations to ensure the boy receives a dignified funeral.
“There was no funeral policy, and there is no money to bury him once the forensic investigations are completed.”
Community members are also rallying to raise funds for the funeral.
