Kimberley Correctional Services official arrested for rape

A CORRECTIONAL Services official employed at the Tswelopele Correctional Centre in Kimberley remains in custody after being charged with rape.

He was arrested over the weekend in Galeshewe.

Department of Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo indicated that the accused is awaiting a formal bail hearing.

The DFA will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.

In a separate case that the DFA reported on last month, the Department of Correctional Services confirmed the suspension of a high-ranking official at Kimberley Correctional Services. 

It is believed that the official was suspended after rape allegations were made against him by a subordinate.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Molefi Shemane stated that the Kimberley SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit was investigating the matter. He added that no arrest had been made at the time.
