A 33-YEAR-OLD woman was arrested in Snake Park, Kimberley, in connection with drug dealing, as law enforcement tightens the net on illegal mining and related crimes in the Northern Cape.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam said the arrest was made on May 15, during a co-ordinated police operation targeting illegal activities in and around the city’s mining zones.

Acting on public tip-offs and armed with search warrants, the multi-disciplinary team swooped on several locations suspected of housing drug dens.

Inside one of the properties, officers uncovered mandrax and crystal meth with an estimated street value of around R10,000. They also seized an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be the proceeds of drug sales.

The operation formed part of Vala Umgodi, an ongoing campaign aimed at rooting out illegal mining and associated criminal activities. Authorities say these crackdowns are crucial to restoring order and safety in mining communities across the Northern Cape.
