SOL PLAATJE University (SPU) has concluded a five-year memorandum of agreement with the Northern Cape provincial government to establish working relationships and promote learning and development.

The director of Institutional Advancement at SPU, Kashini Maistry, said that short courses would be offered to upskill government officials and executives.

"Provincial government undertook to support the Talent Pipeline Programme - a highly successful pre-university preparatory programme run by SPU for Northern Cape pupils in Grades 10 to 12,” said Maistry.

"It will also support the university in the establishment of a high-performance sports academy."

She added that the parties would collaborate to fast-track land transfers for the development of SPU learning centres across the province.

"A co-operation is under way to support SPU in agriculture studies and entrepreneurship, in its endeavour to establish a Faculty of Health Sciences.

"Service level agreements were signed with various state departments to collaborate in terms of the co-creation of knowledge, capacity building, the promotion of research in the province and to contribute to the creation of an evidence base for the implementation of the Provincial Growth and Development Framework," Maistry stated.
