AS SOUTH Africans gear up for the Easter weekend, the SA Weather Service (SAWS) has warned of continued wet weather across several regions, which could impact long-distance travel and holiday activities.
According to SAWS, cloudy and cold conditions with heavy rains and thundershowers persist in the east today, prompting authorities to alert the public to potential flooding and travel disruptions.
However, by April 20 to 21, a surface and upper-air trough will result in a notable shift in weather patterns. Maps show widespread rainfall probabilities of 30% to 60% across the country's western interior, southern, and south-eastern parts, including the Northern Cape, parts of the Free State, the Eastern Cape, and the Garden Route.
Some areas, particularly along the southern Drakensberg, may experience heavier downpours.
Temperatures throughout the long weekend will remain cool to warm, with colder conditions prevailing in areas experiencing rainfall.
Thursday, April 17: Expect a lovely day with brilliant sunshine, reaching a high of 23°C and dipping to a low of 11°C. The RealFeel temperature will be around 24°.
Friday, April 18: It'll be breezy in the morning with low clouds, followed by sunshine and high clouds. Temperatures will range from 12°C to 23°C, with a 25% chance of precipitation.
Saturday, April 19: Mostly sunny skies are expected, with temperatures between 11°C and 25°C, and a 25% chance of precipitation.
Sunday, April 20: Partly cloudy conditions will prevail, with a chance of thunderstorms and temperatures ranging from 10°C to 24°C. There's a 30% chance of precipitation.
Expect gentle breezes ranging from 8-24 km/h, with gusts up to 21 km/h on Friday.
Humidity levels will fluctuate between 64% and 87% throughout the weekend.
Scattered showers or thunderstorms are possible on Sunday and Monday, with precipitation levels between 10% and 40%.
On Monday, April 21, a thunderstorm may pass through in the morning, followed by clouds and sun.
