THE LEGAL Practice Council (LPC) is in the process of suspending Advocate Celeste Nameka after several complaints were lodged against her.

An application brought against her by the LPC was postponed in the Northern Cape High Court last week.

LPC senior manager for communications and engagements Kabelo Letebele confirmed this week that 11 active complaints had been formally registered against Nameka for investigation.

“Disciplinary measures are currently under way against Advocate Nameka, which includes an application for suspension that is currently before court. There are other matters involving the practitioner that are subject to the LPC disciplinary processes. These are being considered by our disciplinary bodies, who will make recommendations to the Provincial Council and National Council on further steps that need to be taken against this legal practitioner,” said Letebele.

Nameka was released on bail of R5,500 on January 17 after being charged with murder, attempted murder and assault following an incident at Minerva Gardens on December 21, 2024.

During her bail hearing, the investigating officer testified that Nameka had instructed her father, Clive Ferris, to “Shoot them, Daddy, shoot them all” during a hostile encounter that erupted after an argument with her partner.

Charmaine Anthony, 56, was killed, while her son, Lucan Anthony, 37, was injured after shots were fired. There were also men present during the altercation who covered their faces with balaclavas.

Ferris, who was also charged in connection with the murder, was released on bail of R10,000 after filing an appeal in the Northern Cape High Court.
