Wonderbag, an energy-efficient cooking device that reduces electricity usage by allowing food to continue cooking without the need for constant heat, can be a lifesaver for South Africans affected by the recent return of load shedding.
The Wonderbag, produced by Wonderbag, a non-profit organisation, works by retaining heat, allowing food to cook over time after being brought to a boil. This significantly reduces electricity and gas consumption, offering an economical way to prepare meals, said Wonderbag founder Sarah Collins.

Ms Collins said Wonderbag provides financial relief and energy independence.
“We’ve been through tough times before, but every crisis offers an opportunity to adapt and become more self-sufficient. It’s about ensuring that we can continue living well, no matter what the future holds. By reducing our reliance on expensive and unreliable energy sources, we are taking control of our own destiny,” she said.
To assist households during ongoing load shedding, Ms Collins said that Wonderbag is offering a special promotion: two large Wonderbags for R370.
Wonderbags are available from the Wonderbag offices in Capricorn Park, Muizenberg, and online from Wonderbag, Yuppiechef and Outdoor Warehouse.
