THE POSTMASBURG police have opened an inquest docket following the death of an 18-year-old teen from Maranteng, whose body was retrieved from a dam near Postmasburg on Tuesday.
He was reported missing on February 23 by his family, who suspected that he had drowned at around 3pm after disappearing underwater while swimming with a group of friends.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said the provincial SAPS Search and Rescue team, the Kolomela Mine Search and Rescue team, and the Postmasburg community assisted in the search.
"The body resurfaced on February 25 at approximately 6.30am and was retrieved from the dam in Postmasburg," Kock stated.
"The SAPS management commends the Postmasburg SAPS, the Northern Cape SAPS Search and Rescue team, Kolomela Mine, the Postmasburg community, and all other relevant role-players who assisted in the search and retrieval of the deceased."
He urged anyone with information to contact Detective Constable Thediso Mokgosi at 082 302 0391.
"The investigation continues," Kock added.
