THE NORTHERN Cape MEC for Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (Coghsta), Bentley Vass, will host a special meeting with mayors and municipal managers on Wednesday in Springbok, Namakwa District, to address critical issues affecting local government.
A spokesperson for the Office of the MEC for Coghsta, Tebogo Monyo, said that the ward configuration process would be discussed in preparation for the 2026 local government elections.
“The progress made by municipalities to adopt the standard draft by-laws for the registration of businesses and the security clearance (vetting) of municipal managers and directors reporting directly to the municipal managers are among the critical items on the agenda.”
Vass added that 31 municipalities would be updated on changes to the legislation or regulations.
“With the upcoming local government elections, municipalities will work closely with the Municipal Demarcation Board (MDB) in the unfolding process of the ward configuration’’.
He indicated that key sector departments and local government eco-system partners were invited to attend the meeting.
