High School pupils from families that fell victim to fires in Dunoon last year have been presented with new school uniforms by a government minister.
Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and People with Disabilities Sindisiwe Chikunga and National Youth Development Agency executive chairperson Asanda Luwaca visited Inkwenkwezi High School on Tuesday February 4 and handed over new uniforms to more than 60 pupils
Expressing her sympathies to the families who had lost their homes and belongings to various fires in the community last year, she encouraged the pupils to focus on their studies.
“Don't look at your situation today and think that maybe because you are poor, or maybe because your home has burnt down, that means your future is over. There is a future for you. It doesn't matter what your situation is today. The situation of your home today does not mean that it will be your situation in future."
Ms Luwaca said the NYDA's Solomon Kalushi Mahlangu Scholarship Fund supported young people who wanted to study at university but could not afford to do so.
“We also assist young people in helping them to find jobs. We also know that amongst us there are those who want to start their businesses, we also assist them by providing financial support."
She urged the youth to meet the agency halfway by studying.
