THE FRANCES Baard District Municipality has allocated R11 million to local municipalities following the tabling of the adjustment budget for the 2024/25 financial year and its mid-term performance review.
The district municipality’s spokesperson, Gerline Roman, stated that by addressing areas of under-expenditure and identifying potential savings, the municipality aimed to enhance efficiency and improve resource allocation.
“For the first two quarters of the financial year, the municipality had spent 36.3 percent of its allocated budget. Through prudent financial oversight, it identified savings of R11 million, derived from various sources such as funds from vacant positions that were not utilised, cost savings from completed projects and unspent allocations for projects that will no longer materialise,” said Roman.
She explained that in recognising the pressing need for infrastructure development and service delivery enhancements, the council resolved to reallocate the R11 million savings directly to four local municipalities.
“Frances Baard District Municipality was committed to supporting local municipalities in delivering essential services to communities,” said Roman.
The funding distribution:
• Dikgatlong Local Municipality: R3 million
• Phokwane Local Municipality: R3 million
• Sol Plaatje Local Municipality: R3 million
• Magareng Local Municipality: R2 million
