Strand library staff hosted a beach clean-up in the Helderberg Marine Protected Area (MPA) on Friday January 10. Hazel Adonis from the library said the clean-up forms part of the activities of the library’s holiday programme. The event started with educational talk at 10am, thereafter the group proceeded to clean the area from 10.30am to noon. Young patrons and staff took to the dunes to pick up the rubbish. Five full bags of rubbish were collected during the clean-up. Members of the Hout Bay Seal Rescue Centre, as well as Lisa Starr from the Helderberg Ocean Awareness Movement joined the library staff and young patrons, all pictured here, during the initiative.
