The Speaker of Sol Plaatje Municipality Dipuo Peters will launch a public participation programme throughout the city on the 2024/’25 Integrated Development Plan (IDP), starting this week.
The first meeting will be held for ward 14, 25 and 28 at the Colville Swedish hall on Monday, January 6 at 5pm followed by a meeting at the city hall on Tuesday at 5pm.
Ward 18 and 33 will meet on January 8 at the Bantu hall at 5pm with ward 12, 13 and 19 convening at the Recreation hall on Thursday at 5pm.
Ward 1 and 2 will meet at the Roman Catholic church in Roodepan on January 20 at 5pm while a meeting will be held at the Pastor Moses church for ward 29 on January 21 at 5pm.
The ward 30 meeting will take place at the Mayo open space at 5pm on January 22 and at the Galeshewe circle on January 23 at 5pm.
A public participation meeting will take place at the Odeon hall in Homevale at 5pm on January 27, followed by a meeting at Vuyolwethu High School on January 28 at 5pm.
A meeting for ward 25 and 28 will be held at the Beaconsfield library at 5pm and at Platfontein School on January 30 at 5pm
A meeting will take place at the Rietvale community hall on February 3 and at Riverton on February 4, both at 5pm.
Sol Plaatje executive mayor Martha Bartlett will lead a stakeholders meeting at the city hall on February 5 at 5pm.
Spokesperson for the office of the mayor Keobakile Musunse said the IDP guided how resources would be allocated as well as the municipality's strategic planning in order to effectively address community needs and priorities.
“The involvement of residents in this review process is essential,” she stated.
Peters encouraged members of the public to attend the meetings.
“Community involvement is crucial to the success of our initiatives. This is an opportunity for residents to voice their opinions and contribute to the development of our municipality,” she added.
