A Fish Hoek man died after jumping from the rocks at Jagers Walk near Fish Hoek beach on Christmas Day.
At 3.21pm, the National Sea Rescue Institute’s Simon’s Town base, and the City of Cape Town water rescue network were alerted to the incident.
By that time lifeguards at already pulled the 36-year-old man from the ocean after he had disappeared under water after jumping from rocks at Jagers Walk, and were conducting CPR.
The CMR paramedics, Law Enforcement and the Fire and Rescue Services paramedics, helped the lifeguards but after all efforts to resuscitate the man, he was declared deceased.
Western Cape SAPS spokesperson, Captain FC Van Wyk confirmed the incident.
He said the deceased man was a resident of Fish Hoek and that his family had been to see the investigating officer.
The body of the man has been taken into the care of police and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.
Captain Van Wyk said to always consider the potential dangers that can occur when going to the beach. “Be considerate and mindful of laws and rules that apply to beaches around South Africa as they are designed to ensure safety yet still allow persons to enjoy the experience of the beaches.”
