OPERATION Fiela made a significant contribution to community safety recently by handing over a substantial cache of confiscated weapons to the Galeshewe station commander, Brigadier Mholo Ngcotholozi. The haul included okapi knives, pangas, and various other sharp objects.

The chairperson of Operation Fiela, Thabiso Louw, explained that the weapons were seized from known hot spots during street patrols conducted over the past two months. He emphasised that the removal of these weapons would play a crucial role in preventing crime and house break-ins during the festive season.

“We will be on duty throughout the holidays,” Louw assured.

He added that one of the confiscated items, a panga with spikes, had been used in a housebreaking incident in West End. “The suspect has since been arrested,” he confirmed.

Brigadier Ngcotholozi expressed his gratitude to Operation Fiela for their efforts, acknowledging the impact of the weapons’ removal on crime prevention.

“We advised the community crime organisation that we would like to accompany them on future raids, as no arrests can be made if the knives are no longer in the possession of suspects,” Ngcotholozi said.

He further indicated that the seized weapons would be logged and destroyed in accordance with police procedures.
