FRANCES Baard District Municipality (FBDM) announced the winners of its Schools’ Business Plan Competition for 2024 at an awards ceremony on December 6.

FBDM communications manager Gerline Roman said the competition promoted tourism and business development and entrepreneurship.

“We encourage pupils to think creatively about the role of information and communication technologies in tourism and business development,” said Roman.

She added that seven schools in the district participated in this year’s competition.

“High schools offering tourism and business studies as a subject were the focus of the competition. Competitors had to compile a business plan, formulate a business strategy in response to challenges in the macro business environment and put the plan into action. Grade entries focused on the Greening Sector, Sport Tourism, and Leisure and Recreation (Grade 10), Tourism Route, Adventure Tourism, Eco Tourism (Grade 11) and Business Tourism (Grade 12).”

Roman noted that all participating schools who met the entry criteria qualified to receive a R5,000 development incentive grant.

“FBDM will use the prize monies to procure furniture and other items for use in the tourism and business study classrooms.”
