THE NORTHERN Cape Department of Education has expressed its condolences following the passing of a Hotazel Combined School educator, Blessing Mthetwa, who died while on duty at a matric marking centre in Kimberley.
Department spokesperson Geoffrey van der Merwe confirmed that Mthetwa suffered an epileptic attack in the early hours of Sunday morning.
“The school and her family were immediately contacted and offered the necessary support. We have also activated our psycho-social support services to the school and her colleagues for counselling sessions,” said Van der Merwe.
He added that the MEC for Education, Abraham Vosloo, extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family as well as her colleagues in the education sector.
“Mthetwa has served her school and the community at large with distinction and her contribution to the education system will be sorely missed,” concluded Van der Merwe.
