IN A GESTURE of gratitude, local religious leaders hosted an appreciation church service in Roodepan to honour and uplift members of the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said the event, held on December 4 at Pescodia High School, was led by the Kimberley CRC Church and aimed to recognise the commitment and sacrifices of the Roodepan SAPS members, particularly as they gear up for the festive season.
The service brought together an array of dignitaries, including the Frances Baard district commissioner, Major-General Charlotte Makgari, the provincial head for Corporate Communication, Brigadier Mashay Gamieldien, the station commissioner of Kimberley SAPS, Brigadier Nicky Mtongana, and Roodepan station commander Colonel Pieter Jansen. They were joined by SAPS members, local religious leaders, and the local Community Policing Forum.
Colonel Jansen opened the service with a welcoming address, followed by an opening prayer by Archbishop Dudley Bouwers. The event featured an inspiring motivational talk by Mark Kotze, who shared his life journey and applauded SAPS members for their invaluable role in transforming lives.
Pastor Richard Williams of the Kimberley CRC Church delivered a powerful sermon emphasising the purpose and calling of SAPS members, while Pastor Mbuyiselo Mguzulwa, the provincial co-ordinator from the Office of the Premier, offered a message of support. His prayer for protection, wisdom, and success resonated with the officers as they prepared for heightened operations during the festive period.
Brigadier Mtongana concluded the event with a vote of thanks, expressing deep appreciation for the support shown by the community and the religious fraternity.
