WITH a sense of pride and accomplishment, the Northern Cape police management honoured officers and members promoted within the Public Order Policing (POP) sector during a rank conferral ceremony in Kimberley this week.

The event was led by esteemed officials, including the Northern Cape deputy provincial commissioner for Corporate Services, Major-General Thabo Mphuti, the deputy provincial commissioner for Crime Detection and acting deputy provincial commissioner for Policing, Major-General Luntu Ngubelanga, and the Frances Baard district commissioner.

Provincial heads and senior management from the Frances Baard District joined the occasion on December 4.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said that Major-General Mphuti personally congratulated the 10 officers and members elevated to new ranks in various POP units in the Province, celebrating their dedication and contributions to enhancing law enforcement in the Northern Cape.

Notable promotions included Lieutenant-Colonel Nelmari De Kock, now Kimberley POP support commander, and Lieutenant-Colonel Gregory Williams, appointed Springbok unit commander. Four Kimberley POP platoon commanders - Japie Human, Morne Jardine, Gregory Hanser, and Adolf Ngozo - were elevated to their new rank of captain. Meanwhile, section commanders Veruka Mashoabao (De Aar), Katlego Modise (Upington), Mosimanegae Malapo (Kuruman), and Tebogo Thomas (Kuruman) advanced to warrant officers.

Addressing the appointees, Major-General Mphuti acknowledged the challenges they would face in their new roles, emphasising the need for respect, discipline, and leadership to enhance service delivery to communities.

She highlighted adherence to the SAPS Code of Conduct and Dress Code as vital for fostering fairness and professionalism. Encouraging her team to inspire peers and subordinates, she called on them to exceed expectations and continue growing within the SAPS environment.

Simultaneously, in Kathu, the John Taolo Gaetsewe district commissioner, Major-General Johnny Besnaar, held a similar event at the district office.

Among the promotions, Captain Mmoloki Cwaile was elevated to platoon commander at Kuruman POPS, marking another milestone in strengthening public safety in the Northern Cape.

These promotions underscore the SAPS's commitment to excellence and its dedication to empowering leaders within its ranks to serve with integrity and distinction.
