THE POLICE in the ZF Mgcawu District hosted their annual Excellence Awards in Upington recently, recognising outstanding contributions to the SAPS and community safety.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Omphile Masegela said that dignitaries in attendance included the provincial commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant-General Koliswa Otola, and the deputy provincial commissioner of Corporate Services, Major-General Thabo Mphuthi, as well as district management, station commanders, and Community Police Forum representatives. Also present were heads of government departments and entities.
The ceremony on November 15 began on a reflective note with a devotional message from Chaplain Titus of Employee Health and Wellness, setting the tone for the auspicious event. Acting district commissioner Brigadier Peet Coetzee welcomed attendees and acknowledged district commissioner Major-General Monica Sebili in her absence.
A variety of speakers delivered messages of support, including the acting district director of the Department of Transport, Safety, and Liaison, Dutch Scholtz, the Community Police Forum district chairperson, Clement Baai, and labour union representative Joylin Isaks (Sapu) and Themba Smith (Popcru).
In her keynote address, Lieutenant-General Otola expressed heartfelt appreciation for the commitment and dedication of SAPS members who contribute to the organisation's goals and community safety. She encouraged continued dedication, mutual support, and prioritisation of safety among all members.
The event concluded with the acknowledgement and awarding of recipients in various categories, celebrating their exceptional contributions to the SAPS and the community.
