THE RELENTLESS efforts of Operation Vala Umgodi to curb criminal activities in the Northern Cape were once again evident during a recent operation in the Frances Baard District.

According to Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Merapelo Pilane, a team comprising members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) conducted routine disruptive actions in the Beefmaster informal settlement in Kimberley on Friday.

During the operation, the team observed a group of people gathered at a house. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the house was operating as an illegal shebeen.

The 60-year-old female owner was issued a fine and warned against selling alcohol without the necessary permit. Authorities also confiscated a significant amount of homemade beer and various other illicit alcoholic beverages.

Sergeant Pilane emphasised that Operation Vala Umgodi remains committed to its mission of clamping down on crime throughout the Province, ensuring safer communities for all residents.
