STARTING this month, social grant beneficiaries will receive an additional R10. This follows the previous increase that took place in April 2024.
According to the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa), the Old Age Grant for beneficiaries under 75 will rise from R2,180 to R2,190 in October.
The Northern Cape spokesperson for Sassa, Siyabulela Mahangu, noted that this increase also applies to beneficiaries aged 75 and older, as well as those receiving the Care Dependency Grant.
“The social grant for pensioners older than 75 years increased to R2,210 from the previous R2,200. The War Veteran’s Grant for beneficiaries above the age of 75 also increased, from R2,200 to R2,210. The Disability Grant increased from R2,180 to R2,190. The Care Dependency Grant increased from R2,180 to R2,190. This increase, in addition to the increase earlier in April 2024, reflects the government's commitment to improving the welfare of all grant beneficiaries,” said Mahangu.
Mahangu also advised beneficiaries not to rush to withdraw their funds on the first day of payment.
“Beneficiaries do not have to withdraw all their funds at once. It is safer to keep your funds in your bank account, transact with your card and only draw small amounts at a time. Funds will remain in clients’ accounts and will not be forfeited if not withdrawn immediately.
“Sassa remains dedicated to ensuring that all payments are processed smoothly, and beneficiaries receive the support they depend on without hassle,” Mahangu said.
