THE MAN who was arrested in connection with the murder of well-known businessman Jayson Afrique, 28, who was shot outside his home in New Park, as well as the attempted murder of his wife, 27, appeared in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
A number of bikers attended the court proceedings. Afrique was an avid biker and an active member of the CC Riders community.
SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said that the accused, John-Ross Crossbery Henderson, 38, would remain in custody.
“The case has been postponed until September 25 to allow for further investigation related to his bail application,” Kock stated.
Henderson was arrested by the Kimberley Flying Squad and the Northern Cape Organised Crime Investigations unit on September 20 at a petrol station in Kimberley.
The incident occurred outside the couple’s residence on July 31, at around 9pm, when several shots were fired into the couple's white Toyota Hilux bakkie, where both Afrique and his wife were seated.
Henderson is the son of the chairperson of the Northern Cape Civics Organisation, Ross Henderson.
