THE GALESHEWE Regional Court sentenced Oageng Phineas Mabula, 41, for the sexual assault of a wheelchair-bound woman.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said the incident occurred on August 28, 2022, at approximately 5pm, when the 32-year-old victim was at a tavern in Galeshewe and was assaulted by Mabula.
Mabula was arrested on August 31, 2022, and subsequently appeared in court. On September 6, 2024, he was found guilty and sentenced to a fine of R10,000 or four years imprisonment. Half of the sentence, R5,000 or two years imprisonment, was suspended for five years. Additionally, Mabula was declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The Northern Cape SAPS management commended Detective Constable Beverly Matlhale of the Galeshewe Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit for her dedication in securing the conviction and ensuring justice for the victim.
