A ROODEPAN family have made an impassioned appeal for assistance in locating Richard Steenkamp, 73, who was last seen leaving his home on August 16.

Melinda Macatees said on Monday that her father had left his cellphone at home before walking off in the direction of the Ivory Park settlement.

“He was wearing a black and white Orlando Pirates T-shirt, black tracksuit pants, blue and white striped Adidas sandals with white and black socks. He is about 1.6 metres tall. We are worried about him as he suffers from Alzheimer's. We have been searching for him without any success since last week,” said a worried Macatees.

She added that they had placed posters with his picture on lamp poles and at tuck shops near their home.

“If anyone has seen him, please contact us on the numbers 062 707 1865 or 066 350 6612.”

SAPS provincial spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said Steenkamp was last seen at the C-Block shanties in Freezia Street, Ivory Park in Roodepan.

“The family reported him missing over the weekend. Any person who can assist with his whereabouts can contact Detective Captain Deon Rheeder on 082 469 0681. The investigation continues.

“The public is reminded that there is no waiting period to report a missing person,” Kock added.
