AN ACCUSED from Van Wyksvlei was handed a six-year sentence, wholly suspended, after he was convicted of assaulting his 38-year-old female partner with stones and a cooldrink crate.

The incident took place on April 29 at 6.20pm when the accused became involved in an altercation with his partner.

SAPS provincial spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said on Monday that Hilldrick Kupido, 30, inflicted an open wound at the back of his partner’s head.

“During routine patrols, members from Van Wyksvlei Visible Policing arrested the accused,” said Kock.

He added that the State opposed bail and the accused remained in custody until his sentencing.

“Kupido was sentenced to six years direct imprisonment by the De Aar Circuit Regional Court for assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), wholly suspended for five years. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.”

The SAPS management commended the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Floris Fritz from the Carnarvon Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit, for his assertive and professional investigation that ensured the incarceration of the offender.
