VALUABLE information provided by Crime Intelligence operators resulted in significant drug busts in the Kakamas, Augrabies and Pofadder areas. The operation led to the removal of both tik and mandrax from the streets, dealing a blow to drug dealers operating in the region.
According to Northern Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Mashay Gamieldien, on July 19, intelligence reports indicated possible drug dealing activities along the N14 road. It was reported that drug dealers were hiding their drugs in the veld area between Kakamas and Pofadder.
Acting swiftly, the Kakamas police operationalised the information and conducted targeted searches in the specified areas.
During the operation, police officers discovered 1,585 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R185,850 in a veld area between Alheit and Marchand. Additionally, in another veld area between Alheit and Pofadder, they seized tik valued at R174,000. The combined value of the confiscated drugs amounts to R359,850.
Despite the successful operation, no arrests were made on the scene. However, the police have registered an inquiry to further investigate the drug network.
The provincial commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant-General Koliswa Otola, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the operation, emphasising the police force’s commitment to eradicating drugs from local communities and disrupting the activities of drug dealers.
Gamieldien said that this operation serves as a clear message that the SAPS will continue to vigorously combat drug-related crimes, ensuring safer streets for residents in the Northern Cape.
