Man sentenced for housebreaking and theft after armed intrusion

AN ACCUSED from Vioolsdrift who was convicted of housebreaking and theft with aggravated circumstances was recently sentenced to 11 years imprisonment by the Springbok Regional Court.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Molefi Shemane said the accused, Richard Kock, 32, made a forced entry into a house in Vioolsdrift on April 17, 2020.

“The complainant notified the police and a case was subsequently opened and investigated. The accused was traced and arrested and the stolen property was recovered,” said Shemane.

He added that Kock was convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment for housebreaking and theft, 10 years imprisonment for the possession of a firearm, of which three years was suspended, and one years imprisonment for the possession of ammunition.

The Namakwa District SAPS management welcomed the sentencing and applauded the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Elrich Losper, and the state Prosecutor, Basil Kock, for their role in securing the conviction.
