THE BARKLY West Regional Court sentenced a 21-year-old murder accused to 10 years imprisonment after he killed a 19-year-old man with a beer bottle.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Merapelo Pilane said the incident occurred on October 4, 2021, when the deceased and accused became embroiled in an argument at a local tavern.
“The accused, Ofentse Mnyasa, followed the deceased when he decided to walk away and was seen assaulting him. The accused fled the scene. The incident was reported to the Barkly West police. The deceased was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries,” said Pilane.
He added that the accused was convicted and sentenced on July 3, where he was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
“The management of the SAPS in the Northern Cape lauded the hard work of the investigating officer, Detective Constable Kgosietsile Israel Taolo, and urged members of the community to avoid confrontations when intoxicated as it often leads to unwanted serious injuries or even death,” Pilane concluded.
