THE DE AAR police have apprehended two suspects on charges of robbery and rape.

According to Sergeant Merapelo Pilane, a spokesperson for the Northern Cape police, the incident occurred during the evening of Monday, June 24, 2024.

At approximately 7pm, the woman returned home from a local store. As she unlocked her door, she was confronted by two men brandishing knives. The assailants threatened her not to scream and forced her to comply at knifepoint. Both took turns raping the woman inside her residence. When they were finished, they apparently instructed the woman to take a bath.

After the assault, the perpetrators ransacked the victim’s flat, stealing cellphones, clothing and a laptop. They then locked her inside the flat before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, the woman managed to scream for help, alerting her neighbours.

The police acted swiftly, and on Friday, June 28, 2024, one of the suspects was spotted apparently wearing the victim’s shoes. This crucial evidence led to the arrest of both men, who are both 29 years old. They are now in custody, awaiting trial.
