A KIMBERLEY medical doctor has been found guilty of failing to declare his personal income tax to the South African Revenue Service (Sars) over a seven-year period.
Fabian Royston Tun, 55, was convicted in the Kimberley Commercial Crimes Court on Monday. He was found guilty of eight counts of failure to submit personal income tax and 42 counts of failure to submit value-added tax (VAT) returns.
Northern Cape Hawks provincial spokesperson Warrant Officer Nomthandazo Mnisi said Tun will be sentenced on July 30.
Mnisi said the Kimberley Commercial Court convicted Tun of contravening the Tax Administration Act 28 of 2011.
He explained that Tun owned a medical practice called F.R. Tun Practice and failed to submit personal income tax returns from 2015 to 2022.
“During the said period, the accused made taxable income, and such taxable income was not declared to the Commissioner of the South African Revenue Service. Sars suffered a potential loss exceeding R17 million. The matter was postponed for sentencing proceedings,” said Mnisi.
